For our April residency programme, we were happy to be able to support two artists! The second artist for our April Residency was Monique Needham with her project ‘The Creators’. Monique is a filmmaker, writer and director who is passionate about telling authentic stories about the culture. Her credits include debut short film Cashpoint which had a successful run in the film festival circuit, and her second short film Mum, Me which was screened at the Toronto Black Film Festival this year. Monique is currently working on experiential films and TV treatments.
As fascinated with the talent behind the camera as in front, for her residency project Monique worked on a series of interviews in which she engaged in conversations with Black men and women filmmakers. She organised individual interviews at her studio in London and asked filmmakers questions such as how they got into the industry, advice for other filmmakers, along with questions about their motivation and passions to create. Monique used Colarama backdrops, colour filters, and lighting to create different looks/feels/moods for each interview.
