The Turing Test was filmed on location in Newcastle Upon Tyne, with additional material created in Satellite Films' animation studio. Edwin (who was creative lead on the project) insisted upon a long rehearsal period and location filming, so as to create an emotional authenticity that counterbalances the film's more surreal visual approach. The film making process involved the local community: City Council staff, students, and residents of the Byker Wall estate all gave essential support.
