An exciting new funding pot has opened to support “community investigations”
Necessity is interested in supporting "community investigations" that aim to explore the consequences and impact of COVID 19. They particularly encourage applications that will attempt to delve beneath the surface and ask more radical questions of UK society dynamics. Some areas of interest include: rethinking food systems; housing; rent; homelessness; and challenging gentrification and culture-washing.
Necessity welcomes a variety of approaches and a community investigatio could take the form of a written report, film or podcast, for example.
The funding pot will distribute £300K in this first round and you can apply for up to £30K. This funding is open to individuals and organisations.
Deadline for expressions of interest is September 21, 2020. Find more information on Necessity here.
Dhelia Snoussi, our Digital Curator, is involved in this funding scheme and encourages artists focusing on social justice issues to consider applying, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds! If you've not written an application before, below are some basic tips to get you started.
Tips for writing an application:
Funders will read several applications, so make it easy for the person reading. Use simple, clear language.
Don't forget the basics. Make very obvious what the project is, when it will happen, who will be involved, and so on.
Respond to the brief but don't overthink what the funder wants to hear. Be honest and clear about what you want to achieve and why, and what you need to make your idea happen.
